Aart Huijg werkte de laatste jaren als leraar aan een universiteit in Amsterdam. Houdend van zijn vak, haatte hij de daarbij behorende levensstijl. Vast achter het bureau voor 8 uur per dag.
Zo sprong hij op zijn fiets en besloot om aan een heel groot avontuur te beginnen. Fietsen van de Noord- naar de Zuidpool, zo dicht als met de fiets mogelijk. Zijn tocht startte in Pruhoe Bay, Alaska en zal eindigen het meest zuidelijke puntje van Zuid Amerika.

Romance in lonely hotel
The balcony view over the Pacific Ocean is amazing. Together with a lonely tree, I overlook the waters. At my side, vultures jump from one branch to the other and spread out their wings to enjoy the sunshine. Far below, strong waves slam against the rocks. The tropic beach fades away in the morning mist. My girlfriend and I are at Bogavante Hotel. The perfect spot for romantic time and far away from overpopulated touristic resorts like Cancun and Playa del Car

Bogavante Hotel
One year after it's opening, Bogavante Hotel still remains undiscovered. It's owner, Guillermo, is actively trying to attract more tourists, but most of them seem to miss dirt road that meanders uphill towards his hand built paradise. It is a pity. Guillermo invested most of his savings to realize his dream hotel. He designed it based on simplicity and constructed it with building materials
available in the region. Little rocks on the corridor floor mark colorful turtles and green cactus trunks form the stair railings. Guillermo even thought about taking off the cactus spines! Privacy is guaranteed in all six rooms by a corridor separating two rooms at each floor.
Down the beach
The hotel does not have a restaurant, but it is only a two minutes walk to the beach. There you will find a small local restaurant, called 'Ojo de agua'. The family members will serve you super fresh shrimps spiced with garlic and red pepper. Get the whole deal, including a Pina Colada made out of fresh pineapples, for just 6 Euros. If you got out of your private bath and made it to the beach, you might just as well go for a long romantic walk along the coastline. Nothing will stop you apart from pelican clans, yellow butterflies, mystical mangroves and green fields of palm trees.
My stay
At Bocavante, I spent one of the most memorable holidays of my life. During a ten days romantic storm, my Dutch girlfriend cracked my emotional safe. I made huge steps in taking my girlish side to the next level. Tomorrow, I will hit the road again after a break of four weeks. My monster (bike) will have to get used to a reborn superhero. Metroman takes off to the volcano region!
